2021 Performance Test Final Days

After an enforced break of two years the 2021 NaStA Performance Test Final Days went ahead at Solihull Riding Club on 24/25 August.

There were four candidates forward, one of which was an approved mare. Experienced assessor Martine Galland was joined by two fresh assessors: Pauline Ricketts (BS) and Tom Rowlands (CCI5*).  As always our vet was Jane Nixon who has supported the Test for many years.

Of the four horses forward, two were awarded Performance Class 1 Elite: the Connemara stallion Caheross Duke and the TBF Premium mare Godington Balenciaga.  The Arab stallion Biddesden Palikari achieved a Performance Class 1 assessment with the Part Bred Arab Yawl Hill Big Yin being assessed at Performance Class 2.  Full details of scores can be seen on the Performance Tested Stallions & Mares page of this website, linked from the Performance Test page.

The facilities at Solihull were excellent with very helpful staff and NaStA looks forward to establishing a long-term relationship with the site.

2021 Performance Test Final Days

After a couple of fallow years – last year being very challenging – the 2021 Performance Test Final days will run on pm 24 and am 25 August 2021.   Our new Test site is Solihull Riding Club, Four Ashes Rd, Bentley Heath, Dorridge, Solihull B93 8QE.  Our assessors for 2021 are confirmed as Martyne Galland (BDlist3), Pauline Rickets (BS) and Tom Rowlands (CCI 5*) (ride).  As previously we will also offer our facilities to the AHS for its premium scheme inspection. This year the AHS will be joined by Trakehners UK who will run their grading and Mare Performance Test alongside us and the Sports Pony stud book who will be using the grading panel for pre assessment of potential stallions.

All breeds of horse and pony stallions and mares and – since 2016 – approved breeding geldings (i.e. gelded stallions being marketed for breeding by frozen semen, with the approval of their stud-book) are eligible.

All owners who may be interested in participating in 2021 are strongly encouraged to contact the Performance Test Director ASAP, with a view to beginning their preparation promptly during this month.  For full details of the Performance Test and the process of obtaining Qualification Certificates, please look at the Performance Test page, where an entry form for the Final Days will also be posted in due course.

We have held over entries from previous years and look forward to welcoming these entrants as well as new participants for 2021.

2017 Performance Test Final Days

This year saw the latest development for the Performance Test when NaSta was asked by the Haflinger Society to manage its mare performance test.  This test ran alongside the NaStA stallion performance test but used different standards and undertook less phases.

The horses were evaluated by experienced Performance Test assessors Martyne Galland (BD List 3) and Peta Roberts (FBHS), together with new ride judge and three-star event rider Ed Eltham.

The one stallion taking the NaSta Final Days – an American Trakehner called Grand Marnier - was accompanied in his efforts by three lovely Haflinger ladies.  Grand Marnier passed his Final Days with a Class 1 result and went on to be considered for full breeding approval by the Trakehner breed society.

The three Haflinger mares all achieved positive results ranging from a Class C to a Class A pass.

The 2016 Performance Test Final Days on 30/31 August were successfully completed by three horses during two days of fine performance in hot weather.

Beginning in 2016, approved breeding geldings are permitted to enter the Test. Following the late withdrawal of an overseas stallion entry, the participants included an Anglo-Arab mare, a Trakehner mare and a Part-Bred Arab breeding gelding. Both mares were awarded Class One assessments, with the gelding achieving Class Two. For detailed results, please follow the links to the lists of performance tested horses from the Performance Test page.

The horses were evaluated by experienced Performance Test assessors Martyne Galland (BD List 3) and Peta Roberts (FBHS), together with returning ride judge and four-star event rider Ian Wills.

The 7yo Trakehner mare Godington Pambula gained leading marks for her dressage, judge's ride, free jumping, ridden jumping and each of her paces, while the 10yo Anglo-Arab mare Annaliese excelled in the cross-country and gallop. The Part-Bred Arab breeding gelding Incognito gained the highest marks for his temperament.

The 2015 Performance Test Final Days on 25-26 August were successfully completed by two stallions and two mares over a fruitful two days, happily untroubled by the frequent showers. All four horses were awarded a Class One assessment, with the Trakehner mare Godington Orinoco gaining the ‘Elite’ accolade.  For detailed results, please follow the link to the full list of performance tested horses from the Performance Test page.

The entry was of a high standard and saw interesting diversity, with an Arab stallion and mare, a Connemara pony stallion, and a Trakehner mare.  They were evaluated by experienced Performance Test assessor Martyne Galland (BD List 3 and showjumping owner/producer), together with two new assessors, four-star event riders Nick Gauntlett and Ian Wills.

All four horses showed particular strength in free-jumping, while the 6yo Trakehner mare Godington Orinoco also gained a high dressage index for her flat work.  The 7yo Connemara pony stallion Dunlewey Red Kite impressed with his wonderful character and temperament while the 14.2hh 11yo Arab stallion Mukhtar Ibn Eternity gained the highest marks for the ridden jumping.  Both the Arabs and the Trakehner gained high marks for their gallop.

Ian Wills was the ride judge and made useful comments about all the horses although again Godington Orinoco scored the highest marks in this phase.

The 2014 Performance Test Final Days on 26-27 August were successfully completed by three stallions, during two days of exceptional quality performance in fortunately clement weather. Performance Class 1 Elite was achieved by the stallions Godington Parsifal (TBF) and FHS Diamond in the Rough (AES) and Class 1 was achieved by the stallion KL Omar (SHBGB).  For detailed results, please follow the link to the full list of performance tested horses from the Performance Test page.

As usual the standard of the stallions forward was high. They were evaluated by experienced Performance Test assessors Sabrina Jones and Martyne Galland, together with a new assessor, the four-star and National Open Champion event rider Francis Whittington, who pronounced himself enthused by the whole process as an important activity to promote British breeding.

All three stallions showed particular strength in jumping, while Godington Parsifal also gained a high dressage index for his flat work.  KL Omar impressed with his unflappable temperament while FHS Diamond in the Rough really showed his class in the ridden jumping.

Francis Whittington was the ride judge and found something to like about each of the stallions although again Godington Parsifal scored the highest marks in this phase.
